The New York Express was a soccer team based out of Uniondale, New York that played in the Major Indoor Soccer League. They played only part of the 1986–87 MISL season before folding during the league's midseason All-Star Break. Their home arena was Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. They were owned by Stan Henry .
The New York Express, Shep Messing told Newsday in October 1986, will be “better run as a business than any team in the history of professional soccer.” Bold words from the former New York Cosmos star, who brought a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) expansion franchise to Long Island in the fall of 1986 with the help of two novice sports investors and an unlikely financing scheme.
The MISL’s repeated failures to gain a foothold in New York were especially troublesome. Between 1982 and 1987, the MISL had four franchises fail in the New York/Northern New Jersey market including two – the New York Cosmos and New York Express – who embarrassed the league by folding in mid-season. In the summer of 1988, the MISL lost four long-running clubs, including two of its former model franchises – the St. Louis Steamers and the Cleveland Force.
